What happens when the trends that are hitting the streets are not your style? I have reached an age where I know my style, as do most women at my age.

Do I ignore the trends? Yes, to a certain degree. Do they have the impact on me they once had? Perhaps not, but they still have influence.

The problem with trends is that they repeat themselves. Those of us that have “been there done that” once will rarely go back for a second time. Not only because we have “been there done that”, but because trends come back into style years later and we just can’t wear them anymore. We have spent decades discovering our own style while trying on all the trends over the years. We have figured out what works for us and what doesn’t.

Body types figure heavily (no pun intended) into whether we can wear a trend or not. Age is another factor. Then we have our personality, careers and social life to consider. Women’s lives go through so many different phases, that we almost always cover the gamut of trend and style in a lifetime. Most of us have tried it all, done it all and lived to tell about it.

I’d like to believe that anything goes these days. Experience, exposure and curiosity influence fashion on a global stage. We discover ourselves through these trends and choose our style based on where we are at in our lives.

We all have our own style, we have to set our own trends.
